Cambodia, Kompong Pluk
Ieng, 19 years old.
She lives on a palafitte house, built on stilts 8 meters high. A kind of bamboo skyscraper on the bank of the great lake Tonlé Sap. The lake converges with the massive Mekong River in Phnom Penh and shrinks dramatically with the seasons and people have to live over towering stilts houses.
She lives with her big family. In the small village everybody lives around the fishing economy: men with boats or nets, women preparing fish for preservation and selling it in the markets.
She studied in the village school, but she would like to carry on the studies. For the moment Ieng helps her mother in the small shop of the village, Fishing traditions are economically essentials for the village people- she says- my father is a boat builder, as my grandfather. All my friends are fishermen and my son will be a fisherman too.-
