Cambodia, Kampong Pluk
Sray Nga, 23 years old, lives on a palafitte house with his son, on the bank of the great lake Tonlé Sap, the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. The lake converges with the massive Mekong River in Phnom Penh and it’s unusual for two reasons: its flow changes direction twice a year, and the portion that forms the lake expands and shrinks dramatically with the seasons and people have to live in almost 10 meters palafitte houses.
Sray Nga belongs to an ancient fishermen family, everybody in the village work with fishing. Men fish with the boats or with the nets, women prepare fish for preservation and sell it in the markets. She has one son and she never travelled outside the village area.
-A lot of people in this area belongs to Vietnamese roots- she says- but our family it’s proudly 100% Cambodian-
